jay looks to his future, and the future.
-one's present action has much to do with what happens in the future -present action determines future conditions -what I eat today I'm going to wear tomorrow -size of my snacks determines the size of my slacks -if you watch your pennies the dollars will take care of themselves -financial health, preparing for the future, tax-sheltered annuities -Jay's excess money goes to scholarships at his undergraduate college -his will and trust are settled; funds going to his undergraduate and graduate institutions -Jay has something billionaires will never have: enough -he continues to travel and write -he published a Medium article just today! "the 15 minute city" -"onwards and upwards" is the likely title of this episode -the bucket list -things people do not want to do (a *uck it list) -Jay does not want to go to burning man; smoke anything; a tatoo or piecing; to jump out of an airplane or off a bridge; to drive in a foreign country; to attend any sporting event of any kind; to watch any awards programs -Jake reveals that his list would be/ is much the same -Jay is not particularly optimistic about the planet or humanity's future -he is an optimistic person; his personal life is great; but he cannot be positive about the future of the world as a whole at this time: climate, economic, totalitarian threats -Jay is glad he's not any younger than he is. Yet another thing that worked out for him, is as he wanted -Jake chimes in: humanity is not dead yet, the planet not a barren rock yet -Jake compares LukeyoutheU to a species of bamboo that takes eight years before sprouting and then grows quickly tall -I have not been able to find online support for eight years underground; perhaps I misremembered. imagined There appears online widespread agreement that there is type of bamboo (loosely called "Chinese bamboo"?) that takes five years before there is visible growth, and then it grows quickly and tall afterwards. Even though perhaps not actual, the story is still useful for me. This is the final episode of a considered life. Thank you, Jay, for recording acl. Thank you for your example, thoughts, and adventures. 58 minutes 10-14-23 debug comment |
