jay visits where he had flown over.
-twenty-six years later, Jay visited what he had flown over before -flying into Milan, Italy, to beautiful Trieste, he took a bus trip to Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia; terrific international vegan restaurant Loving Hut (facebook.com); enjoyable walking, charming architecture, museums, castle, funicular; most tourist places had English good enough for Jay to get around -a bus to Zagreb, capital of Croatia; immediately impressed by general ambiance of city; disheartening factors were graffiti scribbles, crumbling stucco/ buildings; had fascinating museums, including the Museum of Broken Relationships (brokenships.com), the Croatian Museum of Naive Art (hmnu.hr, part of cimam.org), the Art Pavilion of Zagreb (umjetnicki-paviljon.hr), and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb (Wikipedia.org); krumpir (potato dish); Zadar and a Norwegian friend; Split; Dubrovnik, with its city walls -to Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after a six-hour trip in and out of Croatia; Olympics, and the place where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot, beginning World War I; bullet holes in the wall; the Grand Promenade; air-conditioning -to Belgrade, Serbia; bus pass; Nikola Tesla Museum (nikolateslamuseum.org); monuments and parks; beautiful Saint Sava, the largest place of Orthodox Christian worship in the Balkans; no seats; highest number per capita of cigarette smokers in the world -untrusting people (from being part of former Soviet Union?) -Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian are generally considered three dialects of the same language -Jay's blog on his trip to the Balkans (jaydavidson.blogspot.com) 48 minutes 07-05-21 debug comment |
