Heroes of the Quran & the Bible
a LukeyoutheU podcast

Neither of us had but a passing knowledge of the religious faith of the other yet we hit it off immediately. Hass is a pharmacist; we met while in consultational about the probable effects of my flu shot. We moved quickly from and through science into a discussion, which subsequently became further discussions, about the essential nature of humans and God, and our personal experiences with the same. Neither of us are scholars. I also suggest that neither of us has entirely traditional understandings or experiences with our faiths. But both of us believe strongly in the good that can come from our traditions, and practice what we believe best in them.
And, it turns out, much to my surprise I will admit, that there is much in common in our holy books. Heroes of the Quran & the Bible explores twenty-five characters/ people that the Quran and the Bible share. All are considered prophets in the Quaranic tradition; all play important roles, some greater than others, in the Biblical one.
Hass is a student and follower of the Quran and a faithful Muslim. He studies the Quran in the original ancient Arabic, seeking to live by the truths he feels it reveals. I have read the whole of and continue to read and study parts of the Bible translated into English. I particularly focus on Jesus' life and teachings.
In the series, we talk not only from our knowledge of what the stories say but what the stories and characters mean to us today.
We have, so far, recorded six podcasts, talking about the lives and importance of Abraham, Adam and creation, Lot, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. We do not read the characters' stories from the holy books but rather recall them to one another. Our recollections are not letter perfect. They are honest and real, however, and reflect what we believe and feel are the essential points of what the respective messages are.
