more about Jake Knight
You asked for it, you got it: more about me.
I am a person of no few opinions, and I intend that my opinions are in most part based on observation, logic, and experiment. In and through LukeyoutheU, its website, podcast, and books, I talk about things that matter to me. I care about this stuff, this life; I care about Life, both as it is lived today and as it could be lived tomorrow. I hope that LukeyoutheU assists its readers and listeners in living better, more joyous, more giving lives.
Physically, I stand six feet tall (1.8m) when wearing thick-soled shoes; and weigh about 170 pounds (77 kg), give or take. I am male, white, gay, and single. My hair: brown and gray. Fifty-odd years down; forty-odd (?) more to go.
Mentally, I believe in and think about belief systems on a continual basis. Including those of science, history, self, others, causality, relationality, oneness, quantum physics (as far as I understand it), and the Bible. I know that there are many creeds, many ways of holding life together, and that not one of them has, or could have, the whole picture of All That Is.
Philosophically, psychologically, and motivationally, I am a Jesian, spiritual, and pragmatic. Extremely pragmatic, sometimes. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator has me as an E/INFP; by my reckoning, that is pretty much spot on. I know I am complete and can become complete-er; imperfect and perfect, both. History, both personal and cultural; the sweep of events, finding and creating meaning; the relationship of thought, action, and things: these and other topics capture my interest and help keep me alive.
Educationally, my formal studies have included:
8.5 formative years in the Montessori method;
6 at prep schools, the first co-ed and the second all-boys, both experiences also formative;
and at the University of Virginia, formative indeed.
I find myself in continual formation.
At UVa, that school in Charlottesville, I received a B.S. in Commerce and a minor in Religious Studies; almost, but not quite, got into a graduate level creative writing course but did get an A in an intermediate undergraduate one; was honored to be Chairperson of the Guide Service and live on the Lawn.
A lot lot has happened since those early days, most of it obviously good. Suffice it to say that I have not changed so much, I think, as I have become more me.
Pop culturally, I am a big fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Babylon 5, Dune.
