what two friends said
one told me, after years of my telling him
about this website, that I was never
going to finish it.
I was, on that day, offended.
a day later, I took his comment as a challenge;
I also thought he's right.
another friend, this one in tech, explained that
websites are never really done: they are ready
or not ready. that every published
website is simply its current version.
I take their comments as well-meant accurate advice.
I will probably never be done with this site.
what is LukeyoutheU, why does it have
a long and unwieldy name, and what is the
purpose of this website:
the questions rattling in my brain.
believe me, I would, with definitude,
also like to know. I can only
discover and decide along the way.
you too, if you choose to look further.
in this day and age when this is presented as that,
when facts have become seemingly squishy
things, I have tried over the years past to
define and explain LyU. I have wanted to present
some unifying, please forgive me my grandiosity,
theory of life. I failed. the most I can do, the
best I can do, is to tell you what I think.
these thoughts, some told directly, some,
I am afraid, presumptively, some apologetically,
I try for engagingly, all honestly,
are a bunch of what I think.
considering them, maybe, will aid you.
i.e., here is what I think and it probably could
might help you in deciding what you think.
if you get nothing else from this site,
from LukeyoutheU, please get this:
I think that we all form and develop our lives
based on stories. stories we hear from others.
stories we develop/ create for ourselves.
what I hope in LukeyoutheU is to offer you
choices, in lots of different ways, to add to your
stories. to your stories of life, to your stories
of yourself, which are both parts of the same.
to add to them for your benefit. others.
even, perhaps, to benefit the world.
I use many methods, language simple complex,
website design, typography, organization, images,
conversations, LyU's tale, books among them.
Once we figure out and decide on our stories,
once we make sure they are useful and
good, then we live better.
like this website, though, we are never really done.
some of the older, formerly useful good stories
become less so. newer ones take their place.
we are not done until we die dead.
what we can do, what would help us in
living full and rich and fun lives now,
is for us to consider ourselves more like
websites, and less like books.
life is decisions and chock-full of them
